From fall to winter, the days are getting shorter, colder, and it gets dark sooner. When winter kicks in you want to sleep in….just one more minute! Uplift your mood with these suggestions:

1. Be active:

As tempting as it is to stay inside in the harsh winter weather, make an effort to be active. Regular exercise is not only good for the body, but also for the mind. There are many fun winter activities such as ice skating or skiing.

2. Soak up the sun:

Research shows that more mood lifting serotonin is produced in the body with sun exposure. In winter, the sun sets earlier, on some days even by 4 PM. Try waking up earlier than normal or open your blinds to catch those morning rays for an instant mood booster!

3. Schedule:

When the weather outside is below freezing, it can reduce the motivation to do anything, especially during weekends when there are no classes. Make plans with friends or just schedule a group study session in the library. If you are held accountable for being somewhere, chances are you are more likely to go than if you didn’t have plans.

It can feel like forever waiting for warmer weather to return, but following these tips can help keep those winter blues away!
