Wellness & Prevention Services was established as a part of the Health & Wellness portfolio in July 2018. Director Ashleigh Hala and Assistant Director Elise Brucato are excited to share newly crafted mission and vision statements:
Mission: Wellness & Prevention Services supports population and community-level health, well-being, and safety through an evidence-based, environmental, community-oriented, strategic prevention portfolio that is grounded in harm reduction, health promotion, peer education, and direct services.
Vision: A campus culture invested in primary prevention practices and informed decision making, resulting in a reduced need for intervention or treatment.
Many of the core functions of former offices such as Alcohol and Other Drug Services (AODS) and Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services (SAPRS) remain and are central to Wellness & Prevention Services. That being said, new strategic direction offers an opportunity for expanded services, too.
New AODS initiatives include cultivating a community of students in recovery and sponsoring alcohol-free events. To confidentially learn more about plans for recovery support at Babson, email recovery@babson.edu.
We’re also excited to launch support groups designed to serve survivors of sexual and relationship violence. Two confidential groups will meet weekly for 8 weeks, and those that have been impacted as young adults or in childhood are encouraged to reach out for an intake appointment with Ashleigh Hala (ahala1@babson.edu).
In addition to AODS and SAPRS, Wellness & Prevention Services focuses on both mental health promotion and sexual health promotion. Our Guided Meditation Voicemail line can guide you through breathing and visualization exercises to restore and find sleep. Call anytime at 781-239-7378. As always, an assortment of free safer sex products are available in the Reynold’s restrooms and Health Services’ waiting room.
Lastly, the Peers on Wellness (POW) are an integral part of Wellness & Prevention Services. Stay tuned for more information on this semester’s events and apply now for a POW Party Grant!
